GLAAD, la organización de defensa de medios LGBTQ más grande del mundo, anunció hoy que Cynthia Erivo recibirá el Stephen F. Kolzak Award en la 36ª edición anual de los GLAAD Media Awards, que se celebrará en Los Ángeles el 27 de marzo. Los GLAAD Media Awards reconocen y honran a los personas y medios de comunicación por sus representaciones justas, precisas e inclusivas de la comunidad lesbiana, gay, bisexual, transgénero y queer (LGBTQ), así como de los temas que afectan sus vidas.
La ceremonia también destaca la presencia de artistas puertorriqueñas en la música con las nominaciones de las boricuas Villano Antillano y Young Miko en la categoría Outstanding Breakthrough Music Artist, un reconocimiento a los nuevos talentos musicales que han impactado la industria con su arte y representación LGBTQ+.
El Stephen F. Kolzak Award, que recibirá Cynthia Erivo, se otorga a un profesional de los medios LGBTQ que ha hecho una diferencia significativa en la visibilidad y promoción de la aceptación de la comunidad. Lleva el nombre del director de casting de Los Ángeles que dedicó los últimos años de su vida a luchar contra la homofobia y el estigma del VIH en la industria del entretenimiento. Entre los galardonados anteriores se encuentran Niecy Nash-Betts, Jeremy Pope, Laverne Cox, Wanda Sykes, Jim Parsons, Ruby Rose, Chaz Bono, Melissa Etheridge, Ellen DeGeneres, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, entre otros.

La ceremonia de los Premios GLAAD Media está producida por la presidenta y directora ejecutiva de GLAAD, Sarah Kate Ellis, junto a Rich Ferraro y Anthony Allen Ramos de GLAAD. Tony Morrison será el productor supervisor, mientras que Jose Useche será el productor principal. La producción se realizará en asociación con STAMP Event Co.
